Granular consents
Learn how to manage your consent decisions through this guide.
For any study, it is important to handle the consent process in an understandable and dynamic way. Engage platform offers participants an opportunity to consent to projects, review the granular consent positions and the terms and conditions for participation, revoke and re-sign their consent at any time.

Providing consent

After having gotten familiar with the project and registered on the platform, various project activities will be made available to you. One of them might be the Consent activity. With this activity, the project team will provide you the terms and conditions, as well as other detailed information about the project, for example, what data types you will be asked to provide. Please read the information carefully before deciding if you would like to give your consent to participate in the project.

Methods of providing consent
The project administrators will have made a decision on how to ask you to provide your consent for taking part in the project. The selected consent method might depend on the nature of the project and the type of information you will be asked to provide further on.

Engage signature
- You will be asked to provide your consent to the presented document of terms and conditions by selecting the button Consent.
- Next, you will be presented with one or multiple consent positions each of that will require separate confirmation.
- Finally, select the button Give consent to confirm your choice.

If the Consent activity looks different than described here, proceed to the section Standard consents.
Consent with eParaksts
This method will require you to authenticate on Engage with your eParaksts account. eParaksts is a personal electronic signature available to residents of Latvia and is legally considered to be the electronic equivalent of a physical entity's signature by hand. To sign consent with eParaksts:

- You will be asked to provide your consent to the presented document of terms and conditions by selecting the button Consent.
- Next, you will be presented with one or multiple consent positions each of that will require separate confirmation.
- After that, select the button eParaksts to proceed with signing your consent electronically.
In order to provide consent with your eParaksts identity, you will be required to also authenticate on Engage with your eParaksts account.

- You will be re-directed to a new page where you will be required to confirm your eParaksts identity if the authentication session will have already expired.
- Afterwards, the consent document will be presented to you ready for signing in the eParaksts website.
- When the document is signed, you will be able to return to the Engage platform to review your consent choice and other project activities now available to you.

Mandatory consent questions
At times, it might be essential to obtain your consent for certain positions or questions in order for you to participate in the project. Such consent questions will be marked with an asterisk.
If a mandatory consent question is rejected, you will not be able to submit the Consent activity and, consequently, enroll in the project.
Reviewing and changing consent decision

After completing the Consent activity, you can review your consent choice on the project page in the section Completed activities. Select the option to View the completed project Consent activity.
Next, you will be able to Download the signed consent document, and Manage consent - change your consent choice choice in any of the granular consent positions or stop taking part in the project completely.
The Download option facilitates access to all versions of the signed consent for retrieval, documenting all modifications made to the consent decisions over time.
The downloaded consent document will include details regarding the time and method of consent confirmation.

Documents signed with the eParaksts identity will feature an electronic signature timestamp embedded within the PDF file, thus serving as a legally binding document equivalent to a paper document signed by hand. However, documents confirmed with an email account will display an additional information block at the bottom of the document.
Review and change consent choice
Select the button Consent to go on and review the choices you have made in the granular consent positions. Make the necessary changes in your answers to the consent positions and select the button eParaksts / Confirm depending on the consent providing method.
To make any changes in your consent choices within a Consent activity that demands eParaksts confirmation, you will have to repeat the process of signing the document in the eParaksts portal each time modifications are made.
Revoke consent
Select the button Revoke all to discontinue your participation completely. Read about your, as well as the Data Controller's rights and confirm your decision by selecting the button Revoke consent.
Please consider carefully if you want revoke your consent for taking part in the project.

By revoking your consent, you will revoke also all of the surveys and activities that you filled after the Consent activity.
You will be able to re-take the Consent activity and enroll in the project again.

After revoking your consent, the Consent activity will again be available to you in the section Available Activities on your project timeline.
